Description

A necklace of thirty-nine rock crystal beads of various shapes, including round, tabular, barrel shaped and faceted rectangular. The center bead is 2.9 cm in length, 1.5 cm in width at the center, 7 mm wide at the ends and 1.25 cm in thickness. The bead has a flat back with five other facets around the length of the bead. The drill hole diameter is 2.5 mm. There are seven spherical beads; the two on either side of the center bead are 1.3 cm in diameter and 1.25 cm in diameter and 1cm in length. There are fifteen tabular beads with flat backside and domed front. There are also twelve bi-conical or faceted rectangular beads. These have drill diameters of 1.5mm – 2 mm. The drill holes can be clearly seen through the transparent quartz. The holes were drilled from each end and meet within the interior. The clasp and beading tips are Fine (999) silver. These beads come from the trans Himalayan Buddhist culture of two thousand years ago. They were found in the mountains above the Swat Valley in what is now northern Pakistan. In the Swat Valley there is still a large Stupa, a Buddhist monument, remaining from that time.
